A hotel farther away may save money. A downtown hotel may save you from dealing with a car after midnight. I'd compare both before deciding which one is actually cheaper.

I like this one. It's the last regular-season home game, it's Monday Night Football and it's during that weird week when Christmas is over but nobody is really back to normal yet. If I were coming from out of town, I'd arrive Sunday, stay downtown and give myself Tuesday morning instead of trying to make this harder than it needs to be. Then enjoy one last night at Ford Field before the Lions finish the season on the road.
