Miami is one of those road games where the football doesn't have to be the entire trip. You can keep it to a quick weekend, stay near the beach, add a few vacation days or make South Florida the vacation and work the Lions game into the middle of it. The important part is understanding that Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Beach and downtown Miami are not all in the same place.

Someone who wants two nights and a Lions game should probably make different choices than someone who wants four nights, beach time and restaurants. Figure out the trip first. Then pick the hotel area.
This is one of the Lions road games where there really are several good ways to do it.
Keep it short and practical. Make Sunday transportation easy and don't pay for a beach vacation you're not actually going to have time to enjoy.
Stay where the beach is actually convenient and accept that you'll need a transportation plan for the game in Miami Gardens.
Now the Lions game becomes one part of a South Florida vacation instead of the reason for every decision.
Beach time and a longer stay can make this work well as a family trip too. The hotel area and pace may just look different than a nightlife-focused weekend.
Hard Rock Stadium is in Miami Gardens, north of downtown Miami. That matters because choosing a hotel in “Miami” doesn't automatically mean you'll be close to the game.

The stadium complex also hosts major events beyond Dolphins games, including the Miami Open and events connected with the Miami International Autodrome.
There isn't a single “best” area. There is a best area for the trip you're actually trying to have.
Better if beach time, restaurants and the vacation side of the weekend matter more than being close to Hard Rock Stadium.
A city-centered option with restaurants, nightlife and access to more of Miami without making the beach the entire focus.
More practical if the game is the main reason for the trip and keeping Sunday transportation simple matters most.
Worth considering if you want beach access and a different South Florida base instead of automatically staying in Miami proper.
This is the part I'd figure out before booking the room. A hotel can look great until you realize everything you want to do is somewhere else.
Know how you're getting to Hard Rock Stadium before Sunday. Don't assume staying in Miami means the stadium is around the corner.
This may make sense for a longer trip or a group planning to explore several parts of South Florida.
It can work well for some trips, but distance, traffic and game-day demand can change the cost and convenience.
Compare more than the hotel rate. A cheaper room isn't always cheaper if it creates more transportation costs every day.
A 1:00 Sunday game still leaves room to make Friday, Saturday and even Sunday evening part of the vacation. Add another night or two and the pace gets even better.
This is the obvious one. If you're escaping Michigan in November, spending part of the trip near the water seems reasonable.
Miami gives you enough restaurant choices that I wouldn't build the whole weekend around whatever happens to be closest to the hotel.
If going out is important to the group, hotel location matters even more. Choose the area with Saturday night in mind, not just Sunday afternoon.
With extra days, the trip doesn't have to stop at Miami. Fort Lauderdale or another South Florida stop can become part of the vacation too.
A 1:00 kickoff means the morning will move quickly, especially if you're staying near the beach or farther south.
Don't plan the drive based on an ordinary Sunday morning. Traffic, parking and the stadium crowd all need time.
The farther your hotel is from Miami Gardens, the less forgiving a late start becomes.
The stadium is open-air, so check the forecast and current stadium guidance as game day gets closer.
An early game means the trip doesn't have to end when football does. Stay another night and you still have Sunday evening in South Florida.

Miami and Munich are about as different as two Lions trips can get, and they're only seven days apart.
This is one of the Lions road trips where I'd have a hard time flying in Saturday, going to the game and flying home Sunday night. If I'm already heading to South Florida in November, I'm probably adding some beach time and another night or two. The biggest thing I'd figure out first is what I want the Miami part of the trip to look like. Once you know that, the hotel and transportation decisions get a lot easier.
