Detroit Lions fans planning road trips for the 2026 NFL season

Why Picking A Detroit Lions Road Trip Is Harder Than You Think

When the NFL schedule comes out, every Lions fan starts doing the same thing.

They look for the road games.

Not because they want to miss a game at Ford Field, but because there is something special about following your team into somebody else’s stadium.

At first, picking a trip seems easy.

Then you start looking at the schedule and realize every destination offers a completely different experience.

Do you want noise? Warm weather? A historic rivalry? A bucket-list destination? Suddenly you’re comparing flights, hotels, and game atmospheres instead of simply picking a date on the calendar.

Every Lions Fan Has A Different Bucket List

Ask ten Lions fans which road trip they want to take this season and you’ll probably get ten different answers.

Some fans immediately circle the Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills 2026 game. Not because Buffalo is warm or glamorous, but because Bills fans are known for creating one of the loudest environments in football.

Others see the Detroit Lions at Miami Dolphins 2026 matchup and start checking flights before they even finish reading the schedule. A November game in South Florida has a way of getting your attention when you’re looking out the window at Michigan weather.

Then there are fans looking at the Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers 2026 game or the Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals 2026 game. Both offer great weekend destinations, good weather, and a chance to explore a city many fans might not otherwise visit.

Some Trips Become Stories

Most road games are fun.

A few become stories you’ll still be telling years later.

The annual Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears Thanksgiving 2026 game isn’t just another game on the schedule. Thanksgiving football has been part of being a Lions fan for generations. It’s family, tradition, food, football, and usually somebody yelling at the television before dessert.

Then there’s Detroit Lions vs New England Patriots Munich Game 2026.

Let’s be honest. Nobody knows when the Lions will get another opportunity quite like this.

A regular season game in Germany doesn’t happen every year. For many fans, Munich isn’t just another road trip. It’s a true bucket-list experience.

The Best Part Usually Isn’t The Game

This might sound strange coming from a Lions fan, but the older I get, the more I realize the game itself is only part of the experience.

The best memories often happen outside the stadium.

It’s the restaurant you accidentally discover the night before.

It’s the Lions fans you meet at the hotel bar.

It’s the tailgate that starts earlier than any reasonable person would suggest.

It’s the stories you come home with after the weekend is over.

The game gives you a reason to travel.

The trip is what you remember.

So Which Lions Road Trip Should You Take?

The truth is there isn’t a wrong answer.

If you want one of the loudest environments in football, Buffalo should be near the top of your list.

If you’d rather trade November in Michigan for sunshine and palm trees, Miami makes a strong argument.

If you’re looking for a great football weekend with a little less chaos, Carolina and Arizona are both excellent choices.

If tradition matters most, Thanksgiving in Detroit is tough to beat.

And if you’re looking for the kind of trip you’ll still be talking about ten years from now, Munich might be the answer.

The hard part isn’t finding a game.

The hard part is deciding which one to attend first.
